Union County Saddle Club Members
Compete at the National Barrel Horse Association (NBHA) State Championships
on Thursday morning, October 1st, 10 members of the Union County
Saddle Club left for the Georgia International Horse Park in Conyers,
Ga., to compete in the 2015 National Barrel Horse Association
(NBHA) State Championships. In order to qualify for the four-day
event, riders had to participate in at least three district NBHA
shows in 2015. Prizes at the state championship included over forty
thousand dollars of cash payouts, saddles, buckles, and halters.
practice runs on Thursday, horses and riders had the opportunity
to run in the arena and get a feel for the barrel pattern and
the ground. On Friday morning, Saddle Club members competed
against 590 other barrel racers from across the state in the first
go of the open competition. On Friday night, riders under the age
of 19 competed against 283 other racers in the first go of the
youth race. The second go for the open was Saturday morning,
followed by the second go for the youth Saturday evening. Before

on Sunday, a rider had to place in the top 20 in their respective
division. The UCSC finals qualifier in the open was Kristen Miller.
To qualify for the youth finals on Sunday, a rider had to place
in the top 15 in her respective division. Youth qualifiers from
UCSC were Alyssa McFarland, Hallie Morris, Ansley Burnette and Adriana
Smith. Award winners in the finals were Hallie Morris 3rd in
3D and Larry Chambers 3rd in 2D in the Senior Race.
Saddle Club members participating in the state NBHA Championship
included Ansley Burnette, Hannah Carpenter, Vanna Chambers, Sarah
Howard, Alyssa McFarland, Madison McFarland, Hallie Morris, Kristen
Miller, Adriana Smith, and Larry Chambers. Congratulations to
everyone that competed, you did great and represented UCSC well.
